Hilda Nelson is known as a person who always steps up to the task whenever there’s a need — and often even before she’s asked.
The volunteer and board director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Georgia has helped with the organization since 1996, said Executive Director Staci Halyak. Think back to when you were young. Was there a special person — a teacher, a coach, or maybe a family member — you looked up to, who made a special effort to spend quality time with you, and who taught you to believe in yourself and the importance of your relationships with others?
For identical twins Tyler and Skyler Pittman that person is their Big Brother, Gene Gilreath. The trio are brothers not by birth, but by the careful selection of an organization dedicated to helping young people realize their potential and build bright futures. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Georgia Mountains matched Gilreath with the boys after their single mother, Krissy Pittman, decided she needed a strong male role model for her sons.
